Aguilera and friends bid TRL farewell

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Christina Aguilera has signed on for the final episode of MTV’s TRL (Total Finale Live) airing November 16th at 8:00PM.  Justin Timberlake, Fall Out Boy, Kid Rock, Beyonce, Travis Barker, Taylor Swift and many more are also slated to appear, along with some blast from the past VJs including La La Vasquez and Jesse Camp(!).

New Mom Aguilera has come a long way both personally and professionally since she first appeared on TRL singing “Genie in a Bottle,” and she “Keeps Gettin’ Better” as her aptly named greatest hits CD suggests.

“It’s such a special time for me, being a new mom, releasing this [album] the first year of my son’s birth,” she explained to MTV. “I’m looking forward to the next 10 years, which is partly why I named the album, Keeps Gettin’ Better, ’cause it does.”

Despite having some controversy in her past (remember Xtina’s “Dirrty”?) she recently told People that she remains true to herself and has no plans to hide this from baby Max.

“It’s very important to me as a mother to not lose sight of who I was before becoming a mother. I want to share with my son, what I’m passionate about, what I was about before he was born.”

Keeps Gettin’ Better — A Decade of Hits is available now at Target.

Oh, and rumor has it Fred Durst is scheduled for the TRL Finale too — remember when the rumors were flying about those two and his appearance with Christina at the VMAs was one of the show’s most memorable moments:

Gentleman Ne-Yo Bows Out of Controversy

Friday, September 26th, 2008

He’s a Grammy winning songwriter who penned one of today’s biggest hits: Rihanna’s “Take A Bow.”
Yet, Ne-Yo tells the Miami Herald, “(I’ve) never seen the cover of Vibe magazine. Never seen the cover of People magazine. Never seen the cover of, you know, Rolling Stone magazine. And won’t. ‘Cause these people feel that for whatever reason, because I’m a fully functional adult and not a heroin addict, that I won’t sell magazines.”

Is he bitter, or does he have a point? Ne-Yo, whose latest album is The Year of the Gentleman, claims that despite his many songwriting credits (which also include Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable”) he is underrated as an artist in his own right, mainly because he doesn’t live the opulent and controversial life style shared by many rappers.

“Everybody wants me to be the (guy) who’s (sleeping with) every celebrity woman in the industry. Everybody wants me to be this (guy) in the club, popping 17 bottles just because. Everybody wants me to be Diddy, and that’s not me,” he explains.

Do you think Ne-Yo is a refreshing change, a gentleman among gangstas, or do you think that his lack of controversy will keep him under the radar? Comment and let us know.

Beyonce’s Back

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

November 18th will see the release of Beyonce’s third studio CD, which is untitled as of this report.
(Seems she’s as lock lipped about her album titles as she is her marriage to Jay-Z!)

Fans will get a taste of the new disc on October 7th (a double dose) when two singles hit the airwaves: “If I Were A Boy” and “Single Ladies.” Beyonce’ co-wrote and produced both tunes, and all the others too.

Beyonce’s untitled disc, which her label Columbia Records calls her “most personal, reflective and revelatory collection to date,” is one of the releases the music industry is relying on to lift CD sales this holiday season. Do you think Beyonce’ will bring back the sales? Comment and let us know.
